Beene Bag by Geoffrey Beene 1980s Silk Striped Pants
Beene Bag by Geoffrey Beene 1980s Silk Striped Pants
These pants are a great illustration of the fluid boundary between the Geoffrey Beene Ready-to-Wear and the Beene Bag diffusion line in the early 1980s. Beene previewed a very similar pair of striped silk pants in his RTW Spring 1982 advance. Like Manifold Vintage’s Beene Bag silk pants, they have a structured waistband with a tie closure, a generous rise, and angular pleats. We believe the silk on ours is of a slightly lighter weight. These pants can also be understood as part of the “evening pajama” trend around the beginning of the 1980s, pioneered by Halston and others.
