Bill Blass Fall/Winter 1982 Brown Houndstooth Wool Jacket With Matching Scarf
Bill Blass Fall/Winter 1982 Brown Houndstooth Wool Jacket With Matching Scarf
Blass reconceived of the brown houndstooth jacket again and again, from his earliest collections to his latest ones (e.g. Fall/Winter 1998). Manifold Vintage’s Brown Houndstooth Wool Jacket, from the Fall/Winter 1982 collection, is one of our favorites: thanks to its architectural lapel and matching scarf. Blass included the jacket sans scarf several ways in the Fall-Winter 1982 advance, as well as the runway show. We love the contrast between the drapey scarf and the tailored jacket—a contrast that is especially visible because both are fabricated in the same printed wool.
The present-day scarf-jacket ensemble trend was arguably ignited by the Toteme embroidered scarf jacket, which has been widely copied. But the Toteme jacket is just the latest iteration of a longer standing tradition, of which our set and the Fall/Winter 1998 set are two of many examples. Manifold's upcoming Fall-Winter collection will soon sell a scarf-jacket ensemble from ca. 1960.
