Giorgio Armani 1990s Black Silk-Lined Tuxedo Blazer
Giorgio Armani 1990s Black Silk-Lined Tuxedo Blazer
A classic example of 1990s Armani's menswear-inspired womenswear. In the 1990s, the Armani house and several peer institutions produced pieces that can be seen to straddle the boundary between menswear and womenswear. This jacket, for instance, contains elements strongly associated with menswear and with womenswear. It incorporates features of a men's tuxedo blazer: a double-breasted closure, silk-covered shank buttons, structured shoulders, and a silk lapel. Nonetheless, its construction elements attest to its status as womenswear: its slightly exaggerated waist, its princess seams, and the soft drape of its fabric. It falls almost like a blouse. A prior owner cut out its fabric composition elements, but we believe its outer is made from a rayon crepe, its decorative elements from a satiny silk charmeuse, and its lining from a silk crepe de chine.
