This dress plays with the idea of the stitch. In addition to its structural stitches, it is adorned with decorative stitches: isolated ties that look almost like medical stitches. In medicine, these discrete ties are called “interrupted sutures” or “interrupted stitches.” In this dress, they draw our attention to the two different textiles that are bound together: a lightweight silk and a heavy, woven silk. From far away, the distinction between these textiles is less apparent. They almost look uniform in the photography from the Spring/Summer 2016 runway show, in which this dress was look #52.
