The YSL Spring/Summer 1991 Collection, from which these shorts come, is reminiscent of the famous YSL Spring/Summer 1977 collection; both included corsets and shorts. However, the SS1991 Collection arguably more extensively quotes the Spring/Summer 1980 Collection, which itself was reminiscent of the SS1977 collection. In SS1980, the runway show featured moire, shorts, and corsetry-inspired finishes. These shorts, then, are not only a documented YSL piece, but one placed into conversation with several pieces that came before it.
